can having a HPV virus have anything to do with getting kidney infections?

No, kidney infections are a totally different thing, usually stemming from chronic UTI's and bladder infections. HPV is found only in the vagina/cervix. It's nowhere connected to the urethra.

To help with kidney infections, stay hydrated at all times (eight 8 oz glasses a day - 64 oz a day) and drink cranberry juice to keep the pH of your urine up to kill bacteria.  (+ info)

How does treatment for a bacterial infection differ from treatment for a virus?

How does treatment for a bacterial infection differ from treatment for a virus?

A. You can treat bacterial infections, not viruses, with antibiotics.

B. You can treat viruses, not bacterial infections, with antibiotics.

C. You can treat viruses with antifungal medications.

D. There is no difference. You can treat both types of illnesses with antibiotics.
----------

A.

Bacteria are killed by antibiotics, which target microbial bacteria.

Viruses are sub-microscopic and live off host organisms and multiply.
They reside in other cells, hence why antibiotics can not destroy them effectively.  (+ info)

frequent virus infections normal?

My 8 month old daughter has had on and off viral infections for the past couple of months. This cant be normal. What could be wrong?
----------

Her immune system is obviously not working right, take her to the doctor ASAP and ask for blood work on a white blood cell count and sedrate, to see what the hell is going on. I hope your daughter gets well!  (+ info)

WHY does HPV virus cause tumors and warts?

I know strands of HPV cause warts (benign tumors). My question is, why? Everything a virus does is normally to benefit the virus in some way: help it to reproduce, make it live longer, etc. If something doesn't aid its survival, why bother? How does the creation of a wart or tumor aid a virus?
----------

because it is and it always wants to survive and spread! that is why it develope warts!  (+ info)

How do you establish that infection causes due to floating microbes, virus in the atm in operation theater?

It is said that there is little evidence to show that air plays a significant role in the transmission of most healthacre-associated infections ( respiratory diseases). How do I defy this statement?
----------

Well that's completely absurd because almost every fungal opportunistic infection that takes place in a hospital is from an airborne exposure (breathing in spores and fungal fragments) Many bacterial and viral infecions have airborne vectors as well. This is why I hate hospitals, they're supposed to be clean antiseptic places but they're really giant germ traps where people with compromised immune systems are at serious risk.  (+ info)

It is a tumor-producing virus or other agent substance or organism?

what do call this?
----------

Certain viruses can cause human cell DNA denaturization which leaves them vunerable to certain cancers. One example of this is the Human-Pamplona Virus (HPV). This virus is responsible for genital warts and can leave females with a highly elevated risk of cervical cancer. Viruses are not the only way to denature human cellular DNA...other ways include carcinogenic chemicals and radiation. If you strip it down to basic biology; cancer is a simple concept to grasp. After a cell's DNA has been altered; it will begin non-specific cell replication (tumor formation). If left unchecked; these tumor cells spread like weeds in a garden. Eventually starving healthy cells of nutrients and life.  (+ info)

I have a sore throat and my ear aches when I swallow, also my teeth hurt, Is this a bacteria or virus?

For the past week my throat has been sore and everytime i swallow my ear aches. Also my teeth are very sesitive and hurt. I have had sinus infections before but I dont want to waste my time going to the doctors if they tell me its a virus and to go home and get plenty of rest. Should I go anyway?
----------

Probally another sinus infection, but could also be mono or ear infection, or bad tooth, etc. And only a Dr. would be able to take a blood sample to see if this infection is being caused by a virus or if it is bacterial. If this has been going on for a whole week, I would recommend you get it checked out.  (+ info)

Is the tumor virus still in polio vaccine?

In the late 1950's - early 1960's the tumor virus SV40 was a contaminant of polio vaccines, sugar lumps and injections.

SV40 causes tumours in all animals it has ever been given to, except its natural host.

Have recently been told that it is still in the vaccines; indeed sometimes there is more SV40 than there is the active ingredient: polio virus.

Is this true?
Thanks, but:
One of the UK’s leading vaccine expert, Dr. Phil Minor from the National Institute of Biological Standards and Control, noted that some cases of polio vaccine are polluted with more monkey virus, SV40, than actual poliovirus. Although the uninitiated who are not informed about-closed door vaccine science have been led to assume that SV40 was no longer in polio vaccines at the time of this meeting, the conversations confirmed that it was still in use.

----------

No it is not true that the SV40 is still present.

Soon after its discovery, SV40 was identified in the injected form of the polio vaccine produced between 1955 and 1961. This is believed to be due to kidney cells from infected monkeys being used to amplify the vaccine virus during production. Both the Sabin vaccine (oral, live virus) and the Salk vaccine (injectable, killed virus) were affected; the technique used to inactivate the polio virus in the Salk vaccine, by means of formaldehyde, did not reliably kill SV40.

It was difficult to detect small quantities of virus until the advent of PCR; since then, stored samples of vaccine made after 1962 have tested negative for SV40, but no samples prior to 1962 could be found. Thus, although over 10 million people received the potentially contaminated batches of vaccine, there is no way to know whether they were exposed to the virus, and if so, whether it was in a quantity and by a route that would cause infection. It is also unknown how widespread the virus was among humans before the 1950s, though one study found that 12% of a sample of German medical students in 1952 had SV40 antibodies. Although horizontal transmission between people has been proposed, is not clear if this actually happens and if it does, how frequently it occurs

An analysis presented at the Vaccine Cell Substrate Conference in 2004 suggested that vaccines used in the former Soviet bloc countries, China, Japan, and Africa, could have been contaminated up to 1980, meaning that hundreds of millions more could have been exposed to the virus unknowingly  (+ info)
